You know the principle, though, right? Building houses, furnishing them, and reenacting life... and a small detail in it was a decorative flamingo that you could place in the garden, which sometimes mysteriously fell over overnight.

I have taken the advice to heart (thanks for that!) and removed the mortar buckets from the wooden beds. Instead, I stapled dimpled membranes all around. Now they go down to the ground and tomorrow 1m³ of topsoil will be delivered to fill them up. Then some pre-fertilized potting soil or similar on top. This way, the shrubs should all be winter-proof - right?

Trauma game for me. I love video games, but I always completely failed at The Sims. People starved to death, peed right next to the toilet, and something was always on fire. I'd better stick to the shooters.
I appreciate real life. At least my husband can go to the toilet by himself. :D

wow, it already looks pretty good at your place.... I can't even provide photos yet, the hedge is green although the hawthorn is just starting to bloom, the currants have already flowered and there are already little mini fruits on them. Otherwise, it apparently takes time... For that, I have added a bit more: 2 brooms, 1 column cherry tree, and a silver willow, which has already been cut back to about 1m and is supposed to become a pollarded willow, so it will only grow sideways.

Yesterday the shrubs, topsoil, and potting soil arrived. Today we distributed the delivered m³ into the 4 boxes and nicely arranged the shrubs. Filled up with soil and watered well. I have even already received compliments from the neighbors ;-) and I myself already feel more comfortable on the terrace deck. Only privacy screening is still missing towards the street, and the hedge will certainly take a long time until it is tall and dense enough.

And why don’t you have them directly in the ground now? The chance is very high that they will dry out in winter.
