It’s turned out really nice, it feels cozy……in the evening subtle lighting, music…..liverwurst sandwich… really great!!!
You can tell your gardener that he really has no clue at all and simply failed to understand the entire artistic concept of this modern interpretation of the theme:
"Slanting downpipe on wooden wall". Oh dear, I actually like that a lot, I’m going to make one like that for myself too.
If you promise him that you’ll also connect your entire roof drainage to his downpipe, he’ll be your friend forever! Then he’ll need an extra-large rainwater tank and that will seal the boundary.

The perennials are coming along. After all, you just planted them. I think it's great what you’re making out of the small outdoor area. A nice example that even the 3m to the neighbor’s garage doesn’t have to be an ugly "waste piece." There is a lot of potential sleeping in that area.

The perennials are still babies and were planted in the summer. Next year they will show what they are capable of, and only over the years will they spread out properly (as long as they are clump-forming species).

I will also make a perennial corner out of a piece of meadow. In the middle, I have a Chinese wild rose, and hibiscus are planted at the edges. Around them, there should be more perennials because the lawn there is completely pointless and we don’t use that corner for sitting anyway. But I prefer to do that in the fall when it is the ideal time to plant perennials.

Yes, I know, the perennials are growing. We water them diligently so they don’t dry out – right now they still lack deeper roots, so we have to pamper them a bit. But I’m so curious to see what it will look like in two or three years *fidget*

Laughter! Definitely!!! Music! 5 minutes later the paranoid fury neighbor shows up at our door and rants.
Naaah, we let the crickets chirp – she can’t do anything about that.

I want to start with the first part of the approximately 400sqm wild growth area in autumn. Put a fence on the wall and then I wanted to plant a few plants directly on the fence just so it blooms nicely. Which ones, I am still considering. In spring, Kraut & Rüben had a butterfly bed, whether I take the perennials from there? Or ones from the book "Tiere pflanzen"? Behind that, create a path and a wild growth barrier with weed fabric and bark mulch.

Since we don't need the slope, we want to maintain it around the outside about 1 meter deep, kept tidy but animal-friendly and natural. So that we have something pleasing to the eye and don't have to cut thorns at the street, stairs, and retaining wall four times a year. The rest should stay as it is. I am getting used to the crazy blackbirds, dunnocks, and sparrows that already come to the table, the elegant jay, the wren, the squirrels, and the already quite numerous butterflies. One must not forget that in 2017 we flattened almost everything.

Sounds good! Looking forward to the photos.

There are several such perennial mixes – as I said, we have "Feuer und Flamme". They were scientifically put together at a university with the aspects of being natural, low-maintenance, and always something blooming. There are various mixes for different locations and requirements. In autumn, we also add bulbs, for which now simply was the completely wrong time to plant them. And then I got a bloom calendar where I can check the names of the plants that are blooming now or, conversely, I can already look forward to what will bloom next month.

My brother currently has a blackbird’s nest in his espalier pear tree. He says he’s slowly getting used to being attacked by an agitated blackbird every time he leaves the house *g*. Obviously, she doesn’t learn that he won’t harm her and continuously defends her nest. But well, bad choice of location. I wouldn’t pick a tree right next to a house entrance!
