We planted one last spring … Can you give me a tip on how to cut it, I find so many different things online … cut off the top so that it sprouts better at the bottom yes or no? Cut a bit everywhere so that it sprouts better? I am a bit clueless. It has taken well so far but hasn’t really gained height yet and somehow it’s not getting denser either... Last year we cut some off the top on a few, they then sprouted well at the top but somehow that also looks ugly / not dense. Did you put a plant stake on every trunk when it was smaller so that it grows straight or do you have to?

Probably planted too far apart. 4-5 per meter.
How old? How tall when bought? Photo, otherwise one can say or guess little.

The best tip is patience. Let the hedge get a bit older and it will become denser. Over the course of 18 years with our hornbeam hedge in our terraced house garden, we were able to observe this very well. We pruned it quite little and mostly just let it grow. The shoots that went in the wrong direction we "disciplined." In the fourth year, the hedge was beautiful.

Next to a

How long does it take until it grows that big? We would like to make a hedge next to a wire fence and this one is really beautiful.

I overlooked that. Show me, with us it only appeared in the third year.
