If you speak from experience, which species did you plant? I have already done some research and you simply have to be careful which species you choose. With clump-forming types, there should actually be no problems with underground spreading. If you then of course use a rhizome-forming one without a rhizome barrier, it is clear that it will end in chaos. My parents also had a bamboo 20 years ago that they could no longer control at all. In the end, only the excavator helped.

Not necessarily. In the garden of my previous apartment, I had a Fargesia bamboo for 18 years. Over the years it did grow bigger and stronger, but it did not conquer other parts of the garden.

Of course, the Fargesia also grows from below. The rhizomes don't travel a meter or two, but they form clumps. And clumps also grow sideways. I am already cutting the solitary Fargesias on the sides. Incidentally, it needs a lot of water. If there is no water, it loses its leaves. This is not necessarily visible on the plant, but the stuff flies all over the garden and looks unsightly. I posted a bamboo of mine here this summer with a photo—maybe try to find it using the search?!

Yeah, I’ve noticed that too - I have one in front of the terrace, full south side, lots of sun and wind. He doesn’t like it at all. The neighbors have some in front of the house, north side, they look pretty okay but could use more water. Well, misinformed beforehand. I don’t know yet if ours will stay where it is.

But aren't there also those that can withstand falling better (viel Sonne, viel Wind, wenig Wasser)? And what kind of soil do they generally like?
