Let's wait and see. We already had severe winter conditions at the end of March. And the weather forecast is only reliable for up to 48 hours. It is currently February/early March. We are not doing anything yet, even though the last few days were very tempting.

I'm already doing something: I'm watching my early bloomers come out of the ground and clearing away old, withered leaves. But that's about it. The first yellow crocuses are already blooming and I'm as happy as a little child. After planting hundreds of flower bulbs in the fall, I'm now anxiously curious about what will come up.

For my three-part raised bed, my husband designed and ordered a cold frame for the tallest part - it should arrive in the next few weeks and then I can start using it.

Oh yes: raised bed filled with new soil, we've already done that! Much to the delight of our cats, who love their humans so much. Who else has humans that make such a great litter box just for you. Fresh soil, elevated with a good view - simply perfect! *grmpf*

My wife can tell a thing or two about that. She filled our balcony boxes with bamboo trellises so we couldn't even see the contents. Still, where do the cats jump in first? By now she has given up (which also has to do with the nightmare aphids here). At the house, the kitties get an enclosure with only cat grass and my wife gets a greenhouse and many beds.

I also had to really pull myself together, nothing to do in the garden - well, I cut the first grasses, they were already sprouting. Then I preferred to retreat to the lounger - that was nice too  Of course we have crocuses too, just not so many yet, I took self-seeding ones, so there should be more over the years. However, there were lots of dead bees lying around these days because they were awakened and then hardly find any food in the dead gardens here :(

The next project to enhance outdoor living during pandemic times is gaining momentum. Yesterday, we ordered an awning with a motor and remote control from an online shop in BW. I want to try the installation myself with my neighbor. The not very solid Ytong, in my opinion, requires 170 mm long wall anchors inserted in two-component mortar using the Fischer FIS V system. I have never worked with it before, but it doesn’t seem too difficult to me. Measure carefully, mark, drill 13 cm deep, blow out the holes and scrub with a brush. Press in the mortar, insert the rods immediately, wait. When hard after about an hour, attach the holders of the awning to the threaded anchor rods, align, if too far, then hook on the bracket, plug into the socket and done. An attempt at a nearby craft business resulted in awning prices for custom-made ones beyond 1600,- plus labor for installation. So, around 2 thousand. I won’t spend that. Now we’re halfway there with off-the-shelf goods, which fit perfectly here.

I mostly keep my feet still as well. Tomatoes, chili, eggplant, and physalis are allowed to see the light of day in the indoor greenhouse. I will clear out the two greenhouses in the next few days, to see which of the chilis survived the winter. Then radishes and lettuce will go in there already. We have put a protective cover over the jostaberry and fig due to the nighttime frosts. I also assume that we will get snow again.
