I have worked for several years in research and development of plant protection products and know a bit about it. The main components of "Pontos" are Picolinafen (weight-%: 8.74) and Flufenacet (weight-%: 20.98). Flufenacet is a CMR substance. CMR stands for: C: carcinogenic - causes cancer M: mutagenic - causes mutations R: reproductive toxic - harms the child in the womb and can affect fertility.
Yes, but the overall classification of the substance no longer has to do with CMR, Flufenacet is only present in a 21% proportion. Therefore, the overall product results in “only” a "Skin Sens. 1A" and "STOT RE 2," which means it can damage organs if exposed to the stuff longer and/or more frequently (damage is not the same as cancer). I find the danger to groundwater more concerning.
I will also address this at the daycare. On spraying day, the little ones should better not be outside.
THAT is certainly sensible, and I would definitely support that. But please don’t pull out the cancer card. It is not healthy, especially for children who are growing, and that should actually be enough as an argument.
ps: I am not a farmer, but I deal with hazardous substances and luckily many safety data sheets are available online. pps: again no photo, but I didn’t want to just leave it like that.
