With a time delay, videos appear on YouTube - we receive BBC via TV satellite.
You can access the BBC iPlayer through a VPN with a server infrastructure in Great Britain - for example with expressvpn or ipvanish or more stable but not cheap cyberghost - which also works in some other countries.

Got a contact to a gardener + equipment rental through my sister. Since we want to plant a bamboo hedge as a privacy screen for my parents, I contacted him to dig the trench for it in advance (13m length, 70cm width, 50cm depth). He was here briefly just now and the job will be done tomorrow already. 2 hours, max 100€ total. For that price, I'd be crazy to start digging with a shovel. o_O So one thing leads to another: Since we're pretty unhappy with our bumpy lawn, we'll probably have the whole property leveled and reseeded in spring. He said with the big excavator he'd be done in about 4 hours (approx. 450m² lawn area) and then we can reseed. My sister has done a lot with him by now and is very happy about it. Contacts like that are worth gold. :D By the way, for bamboo we chose Fargesia Ivory Ibis. 15 plants (20L containers) over 13m.

It's a pity that it's not in the Berlin area (I guess). I would even say something like that is worth diamonds!

Our garden isn’t really colorful yet, but I’m really happy about the progress over the last few months. The winter was harsh and long, and back then it looked like this – no paving, slope modeling or even stabilization, no carport, and definitely no planting:

Six months later: not too bad, right? ;)

From below it looks like this:

Three weeks ago we sowed a herb meadow mix and now we can watch the grass grow. Actually a bit late, but we really wanted to get it done before the areas painstakingly cleared of weeds grow over again, erode, and harden (south-facing and clay/loam soil is a rather toxic combination when bare). On the open space in the last photo (where the manhole cover is visible) we’ll plant a few fruit trees, and then we’ll wait two or three years to see how everything develops.

The whole property will be rather wild, natural, and animal-friendly. We have lots of bird protection shrubs as well as berries, crab apples, etc., and various flowering plants for insects. The herb meadow is also meant to grow wild and only in spots where we spend more time we will keep it short. Let’s see if that works. The soil conditions aren’t actually ideal, but it doesn’t have to be a show meadow.

Besides the really challenging terrain modeling (we have an 8m height difference on the property) and the minimally executed supporting elements, we planted about 850 plants. Also about 18 cubic meters of bark mulch and wood chips that we use to prevent erosion of the slopes. Basically, it should all grow over and rot, but that takes some time.

Yes, yes, I know – a garden is never finished, but for now I’m very satisfied
