Finally, the time has come for me to join in here as well. The garden still looks more like a construction site and it will take at least two or three more weeks before I can show fresh plantings here, but I can already brag about our corten steel raised bed, which was custom-made according to our design:

It doesn’t look like classic “corten” yet, it will be treated accordingly on site, but I am really looking forward to it. Once it is in place, my husband will build a cold frame attachment for the upper (highest) bed, so I can start very early next year. This year, though, only from the end of May/early June.
It will be placed right in front of our balcony, where there are still L-stones and excavated soil stored now:

I brought a few plants from our old garden or rescued them from the excavator, and unfortunately I already had to buy a few (our garden landscaper is complaining, this is the part of the work he likes best, and I already have a whole bunch of plants that he has to find places for *g*). Some are waiting behind my mother’s house for their new spots:

The rest is on the balcony:

Now I can hardly wait until the dirty hole that has opened up around the house finally transforms into our green oasis.

The raised bed is cool. Something different from this standard rectangle. How heavy is it?
I’m still a bit overwhelmed with the garden at the moment. I don’t know anything about plants and have to look everything up. I’m glad the previous owner of the property had already planted grass before selling it again. At least everything is green except for the part where we spread the excavated soil.
And for now, we are focusing on the excavated soil part so we don’t have to tackle the whole garden at once. The only thing I’ve read lately has been gardening magazines and books.

And then you realize the garden is too small.

Set a rough direction and then proceed step by step. One thing at a time.

Well, the garden being too small doesn't happen so quickly with us. We have a 1600 sqm plot. So I can buy plants like crazy, but I hold myself back because I also want everything to fit together and get along. And it also has to have some kind of use. So far, we have only planted plants that are either good for insects or birds. And we also have enough "wild" corners. I wouldn't have thought that I would enjoy bustling around in the garden so much and learning about plants. Here's a current photo from the living room window: The woodpile already belongs to the neighbor. The property line is back there by the two embankments and to the right next to the garden shed.

The boundary explains why the wood is not in front of the hut but dozens of meters to the side.

Yes and no. The neighbor's garden house is about the same distance to the left out of the picture as ours. I think he put it back there because the ground is somewhat level there again. The plots slope down towards the center.
