Just received the bamboo delivery. The excavator is coming this afternoon to dig the trench, and I'll get the prep work done over the weekend. :)

Do you actually use a root barrier, or will Santa bring a machete? I think bamboo grows fast... in all directions :oops:

I have chosen a Fargesia variety (Ivory Ibis). They form clumps, so they do not produce underground rhizomes, therefore a rhizome barrier is not necessary.

The fact that it grows quickly is also the point. They are supposed to hide the higher terrace of the neighbor and serve as a privacy screen from that very terrace onto our property. For that, they need to grow 3m high. ;)

They are Horst-forming...

I would be even more afraid of that - not that you soon have a lot of Seehofers standing in your garden. Although, for privacy screening, maybe not so bad after all.

Then you can think about the machete again... :D

You will curse the bamboo in 5-6 years, unfortunately speaking from experience. It grows everywhere and even comes through tar and pavement, your neighbor will soon be thankful as well.
