Only a few are still blooming for me. Most are just starting to sprout. The Clematis (which I only planted in the fall) has stopped blooming under the frost protection. It actually always had one or two flowers. The winter honeysuckle is showing no signs of blooming yet. I hope that the wild growth on the slope provides enough food.

Say, Haydee, you have mini ponds. Are there also mini water lilies in them? How long can they stay outside? And how demanding are they regarding winter storage? I came across an old 90-liter zinc tub, it’s watertight. It’s supposed to become a mini pond this year. I even found a harmless remedy against mosquito larvae that you can dose into the water, to ease my husband’s concerns. Many greetings Gabriele

There was a water lily inside. However, it did not bloom. The plants can handle light frost. Mine are probably done for. The small ponds are completely frozen through. That can no longer be considered light frost. All winter there were only a few centimeters of ice on them. I did not expect that. Stupid.

I would not put a water lily in anymore. It does not bloom, extremely many algae.

You need a place with relatively little sun. The ponds get very warm in summer and then the algae come. Every other day I took a watering can full out and refilled with cool water. Curious to see what has survived the frost now. I found them pretty and the birds used them too.

We had 17! degrees today. 17 in February and that in SH close to the border with DK with two degrees water temperature. I couldn't resist. It was tempting. I wondered if it would start right away? There was still some gas left in the tank. Once, puffpuff... twice, puffpuff, wait a bit, three times, roarrr, it started, yes and now? Then I'll just mow. It was pure joy. The first freshly mowed lawn on the street. Along came dpd with the fertilizer bag. If a shower is in sight, it gets the starter fertilizer. The other plants are also beginning to wake up. The first leaf buds are becoming visible, the terrace has gotten a green tint over winter, sprayed with moss remover one to three. We also grilled afterwards, properly in style with Aldi charcoal in the Landmann tripod round grill, the good one for 5.99. Now I also know why the British call spring “spring” — because that's when the lawnmower starts up. Roaaartatatatt.

What do the plants do, well cared for and fertilized? They sprout! And what do they do then, when there is still frost in March/April? I don't know if we should do anything yet

With us, the [Grünlandtemperatursumme] is still too low. Therefore, fertilization has not yet begun. The plants are not taking it up yet. I also suspect that winter will come back again.
