Which mid-range furniture brands are there?

So, if you want to fully furnish with Hülsta and Musterring, you could very quickly spend a mid to high five-digit amount and then find yourself in a furniture store atmosphere. I wouldn’t look for brands at all, but wait and find your own style. Stroll with open eyes and trust your own taste. It doesn’t have to have a “brand” on it. Touch, feel, like: a piece of boat wood fits very well with plain white veneer and pink panne velvet with black woven fabric … most people don’t need wall units anymore and I don’t even know what a sectional sofa is  By the way, here is a similar thread https://www.hausbau-forum.de/threads/welche-moebelhaeuser-koennt-ihr-empfehlen.41249/ The nickname is similar, the building location the same… same ideas… You are practically twins ;)

The market for furniture and especially kitchens in the "big" stores works like in mattress shops: desired retail price plus 200% markup minus constant and quite high discount promotions = profit margin. Buyers feel like they are getting a bargain, but in reality they are just being deceived all the time. I know this is very generalized, but when you look at some price reductions you realize that the original price does not reflect the quality. In fact, Ikea, in my opinion, follows the opposite strategy here. The furniture and kitchens are significantly cheaper because there are no 5000 euro promotions, which sometimes gives them a reputation for being cheap. However, the products can definitely compete with competitors in the mid-range segment. Sure, individual customization is different. But it is not worse.

We now have quite a lot from Ikea. We used to have Roller, but that was somehow all junk. Therefore, I would personally classify Ikea as mid-range. It depends on what you choose. A configured Kallax also costs its price, but with feet, drawers, and so on, it immediately looks much better. I also like to check the classified ads. Our living room set, for example, cost €120. If I don’t like it after a year, then I look for something new.

You can even pimp or customize IKEA furniture, e.g., with special handles. Even without being a great craftsman. I hate to repeat myself, but IKEA is mid-range and the price-performance ratio really is right. For example, a few years ago at Porta there was a shelf that looked 1:1 like Kallax but cost almost twice as much. I also didn't see any difference in quality there. It's really worth comparing.

We actually have a lot from IKEA as well.
Our entire bedroom is furnished with Malm, only the wardrobe is a Pax.
My girlfriend brought it from her parents' house to our apartment, and now, over 5 years later, it is in our house. Her father had already bought it second-hand back then.

I had to screw in two or three more screws for stabilization, but otherwise the piece holds up and works well and even looks good.
After all, real wood veneer was used. That’s definitely not cheap junk.
Our Malm dressers are several years old as well and still look very good – thanks to careful treatment.

Our coat rack is from the Hemnes series. Real wood, also quite high-quality and solid, yet back then under 200 EUR.

The office is a mix of Kallax and Billy cabinets.
Design-wise they’re not a knockout, but they do their job and are totally sufficient for a utility room.

In the living room, we have a Besta TV unit. It’s mounted on the wall with the TV hanging above it. That makes it look very classy and it is timeless and modern.
To the right of our sofa, a Besta dresser for odds and ends like decorations and board games.
The floor lamp to the left of the sofa is also from IKEA.

Since we now have a fairly large bathroom and needed storage space, we were looking for a bathroom cabinet. At the usual furniture stores, there was either really cheap stuff you could instantly tell and feel, or insanely expensive items.
And 1000 EUR or more for a simple cabinet 50 cm wide and 1.80 m tall – no way!

So, IKEA again. It became a Godmorgon in glossy gray. Simple and modern, fits in well everywhere and cost 200 EUR. We are satisfied.
Oh yes, the real wood shelf (square), which we already had in the apartment’s bathroom, is also from IKEA and still in top shape after 10 years.

So far, IKEA has often been the only option for us. We mostly like the very straightforward style.
We exclude the really basic series – you might as well go to Roller then ;)

What we consciously don’t buy at IKEA because we simply don’t like it: tables, chairs, sofas…

We have definitely seen nice things at Höffner and similar stores, but the prices for average earners are usually outrageous.
The items we like there are really expensive, and the items in the mid-price range often don’t appeal and are still more expensive than IKEA.

Before I met my girlfriend, I was totally against IKEA and prejudiced. That has now changed permanently.

If you are looking for furniture for life, then of course you should go somewhere else, that’s clear.
However, we use our furniture for a very long time and I think most pieces will last us at least 10 years.

So what now? First everything is great, you have the whole house (or the whole apartment) full, but in the long run it’s still nothing?
First sugarcoat it, then come to a different conclusion…
