We actually have a lot from IKEA as well.
Our entire bedroom is furnished with Malm, only the wardrobe is a Pax.
My girlfriend brought it from her parents' house to our apartment, and now, over 5 years later, it is in our house. Her father had already bought it second-hand back then.
I had to screw in two or three more screws for stabilization, but otherwise the piece holds up and works well and even looks good.
After all, real wood veneer was used. That’s definitely not cheap junk.
Our Malm dressers are several years old as well and still look very good – thanks to careful treatment.
Our coat rack is from the Hemnes series. Real wood, also quite high-quality and solid, yet back then under 200 EUR.
The office is a mix of Kallax and Billy cabinets.
Design-wise they’re not a knockout, but they do their job and are totally sufficient for a utility room.
In the living room, we have a Besta TV unit. It’s mounted on the wall with the TV hanging above it. That makes it look very classy and it is timeless and modern.
To the right of our sofa, a Besta dresser for odds and ends like decorations and board games.
The floor lamp to the left of the sofa is also from IKEA.
Since we now have a fairly large bathroom and needed storage space, we were looking for a bathroom cabinet. At the usual furniture stores, there was either really cheap stuff you could instantly tell and feel, or insanely expensive items.
And 1000 EUR or more for a simple cabinet 50 cm wide and 1.80 m tall – no way!
So, IKEA again. It became a Godmorgon in glossy gray. Simple and modern, fits in well everywhere and cost 200 EUR. We are satisfied.
Oh yes, the real wood shelf (square), which we already had in the apartment’s bathroom, is also from IKEA and still in top shape after 10 years.
So far, IKEA has often been the only option for us. We mostly like the very straightforward style.
We exclude the really basic series – you might as well go to Roller then ;)
What we consciously don’t buy at IKEA because we simply don’t like it: tables, chairs, sofas…
We have definitely seen nice things at Höffner and similar stores, but the prices for average earners are usually outrageous.
The items we like there are really expensive, and the items in the mid-price range often don’t appeal and are still more expensive than IKEA.
Before I met my girlfriend, I was totally against IKEA and prejudiced. That has now changed permanently.
If you are looking for furniture for life, then of course you should go somewhere else, that’s clear.
However, we use our furniture for a very long time and I think most pieces will last us at least 10 years.
