Can polygonal slabs be laid on an existing terrace (concrete slabs)?

Hi!

Thanks for the feedback.

The focus of the project is not on building the terrace as high as possible (to minimize the height difference to the house entrance mentioned in the first post), but rather to generally beautify the terrace. The height difference is just a positive side effect.

So I can proceed exactly as in the YouTube video from Hornbach and apply cement bonding slurry to my existing concrete slabs and then lay the polygonal slabs with the adhesive?

Best regards & thanks

Good morning,

after discussions with two landscape gardeners (GLB), we are now very uncertain whether we should take on this project (with the given conditions).

Structure: approx. 8-10 cm concrete (including reinforcement) + approx. 3-4 cm polygonal slabs
Required materials: drain concrete, reinforcing steel, trass cement, joint material

The statements in the conversations with the GLB were also very open and honest. It did not feel like they wanted to sell us anything. Besides, the GLBs' schedules are all fully booked anyway.

Now we have considered whether an alternative could also be nice...
WPC: We have looked at various options and even the most realistic-looking solutions still seemed too artificial to us.
Tropical woods: Not an option for us
Local woods: Unfortunately, only very limited durability
Bamboo: This currently seems to be our favorite. Unfortunately, there is extremely little information/readings about it. Especially regarding experiences in the forums.

Can anyone say something about this? Allegedly, development has been progressing in recent years, and bamboo is increasingly being sold as decking boards (at least according to a seller during yesterday's consultation).

Best regards & thanks!

Hello Gatho What is "Drainbeton"? Concrete as drainage? A new invention. Otherwise, everything is consistent. Well, whether you lay reinforcement in 8-10cm concrete is a matter of belief. You can do it, but you don't have to. Tropical woods no, bamboo yes. You should take a look at the bamboo forests in Asia. Nothing lives there. It is comparable to our spruce plantations. Steven

Hello

Just asked Master Google. It does actually exist. Whether it is useful?

Hi Steven,

Drainbeton didn’t mean anything to me either until now. I learned it from a GLB.

The construction with polygonal slabs is not completely off the table yet – but maybe we won’t do it entirely on our own, instead we would get help from the GLB and then carry it out by next year at the latest and save some money until then.

The alternative would be bamboo. Unfortunately, there is really very very little information on that. However, I find this option very exciting.

Best regards!

But asking stupidly, this approach then still aims to compensate the height difference as completely as possible. Or not? Because otherwise, the 8-10 cm of concrete only make limited sense, don’t they?
