Yes, the stairwell has a chimney effect. It is a staircase with landings down to the basement.

My stairwell is also open all the way to the top. No chimney effect :cool: But of course, it is cooler when you stand by the stairs. However, there is no draft going up.

Maybe I just have a different perception than you :p

Yes, certainly. Below basement corridor 18.5 and above upstairs 22. It's quite a big difference. But you have to be receptive to feel the pull :D.

What do you mean by general electricity? We use 10 kWh daily. That would leave only 10 kWh for hot water and heating. That is physically impossible.

The chimney effect actually describes the rapid rise of hot air in a vertical shaft. The cold air rising like a chimney would be an anti-chimney effect and is a theoretically and experimentally not yet observed effect... In any case, worthy of a Nobel Prize!
