Referring to my architectural discussion some time ago, I wanted to ask again if you find the windows in the living area sufficient... there is the lift-and-slide door in the "dining area" with a width of 2.63 / height 2.385, furthermore in the "living room" two windows with a sill height of 1.00, one 1.76/1.385 (south) and one 1.135/1.385 (west). The window in the west should not be above the couch, as we also want to have some space behind it, so it could at most be floor-to-ceiling or larger towards the interior wall. But maybe the light is already enough as it is. It is always difficult to assess. Attached again is the ground plan of the ground floor.

I consider the windows to be sufficient. Don’t fixate so much on the drawn furniture positions. Windows, in front of which a couch back might stand, I would always place high enough so that the couch back isn’t bleached by direct sunlight.

According to the state of the art, if it is solely about shading and not about burglary protection, [Raffstores] are standard. The heat stays outside, the light is regulated into the house. This may not yet have reached every builder. These things are also not cheap and usually require additional technology ([Windwächter]). I find roller shutters absolutely hideous and cannot understand why they are installed practically everywhere in Germany. To me, it always looks like a bunker/prison when the roller shutters are down. Apart from that, to my knowledge, there are even combinations of both.

That’s a good tip, I will measure that again!

I am also thinking about making the south-facing window (1.76/1.385) a single fixed pane instead of a double casement window, meaning there would no longer be a mullion that reduces the glass area. However, it could then never be opened. But it would probably look good too?

I don't care about state of the art, I don't want to cut my view into little pieces. Whoever brakes a lot is driving in too high a gear – in my opinion, there is a smart, albeit banal, alternative to the concept "too much window area, and then shading". Apart from that: you usually shade when you're getting too much glare and/or heat yourself – until then, the sofa may already have gotten an overdose of sun.

The middle post doesn't make much difference, the sash frames themselves make more of an impact. The panoramic view gain is only worth it when looking outside, so less for windows that are behind you. Cleaning on the ground floor is not a problem here, so not being able to open it doesn't matter, and air still comes in plenty from other places.
