Yes, of course much of it is just aesthetics. But sometimes it also has added value, like a somewhat less obstructed view outside, which is reduced by another 20-30cm above the sofa backrest due to the parapet.
To illustrate, I would find something like this great (plus another window on the other side of the sofa backrest).
You can nicely look outside from the wall side over the sofa backrest, and with the estimated 30cm setback here, it doesn’t look cramped at the window.
Yes, of course, it does not have to be floor-to-ceiling. We have a parapet height of 90 cm, which already obstructs the view.If the goal is to look outside over the back of the sofa, there is no need for a floor-to-ceiling window here. A parapet height of 40 to 70 cm is absolutely sufficient.
I would have done it that way now too. We have 90 cm everywhere.As Kerstin writes, it is the same for us, the parapet height is 60cm and we see EVERYTHING that is going on outside. It is the same in the bedroom.
