Do you have a cross-section of the house? Our house is 8.60 m deep (the gable) and therefore has a height of 7.80 m. With a eaves height of 3.50 m, this results in a knee wall of 50 cm. You did give a ridge height of 8.50 m, but that probably refers to the top of the street surface. You certainly don't want the front door at street level, meaning 20 to 30 cm goes away here. That leaves about 8.20 m plus a bit of tolerance, and your knee wall is between 70 and 90 cm.

I wouldn’t throw it away... only one person said that here. I would just move the chimney if the room bottom right stays the bedroom... and definitely put a built-in wardrobe opposite the stairs. And plan the windows sometime.

The floor plan is absolutely not bad at all, only relative to the wishes there is a big gap. It is in a way exactly right, just unfortunately for other people.

8.55 m house depth /2 x tan30° equals 2.47 m, x tan40° 3.59 m - calculated back from 8.50 m ridge height result in 6.03 and 4.91 m eave height respectively. Minus 1.38 m knee wall so in the worst case 3.53 m, minus 2.85 m story height leaves 68 cm (four steps) above reference level. Given the flatness of the plot, that is comfortably maintainable.

All clear?

I always like to have a bright, wide entrance area. So I tried a different staircase with almost the same ground floor. Upstairs with a master bathroom, which could also optionally be converted into an office.

If it were my house, I would rather do without the shower downstairs - just a WC there, guests sleep upstairs (then the kids have to share a room) and the office stays downstairs. Then a nice master bathroom with a large cozy tub.

Of course, one can live with the floor plan, but I will try to incorporate some of the wishes.

Thanks for the quick calculation of the ridge height, I am relieved that it is not as tight as I thought.

Thanks for the interesting floor plan! I would never have thought of installing the straight staircase like that. I will really consider whether it or something similar could also work for us. The entrance area is really very nice and there would be a lot of storage space under the stairs.
