Yes, exactly the right side. The idea back then was to come from the living room/sofa and then be able to go out by the shortest route. I think the left side isn’t much better either. If you can go out there, you can also do it through the right side. The question is how much space there still is between the piano and the table/chair with large table lengths. Otherwise, there would still be the option to walk around the table once and then go out past the counter. The further you get towards the sofa, the more the table ends up squeezed between the fireplace and the piano. There are definitely still about 3 meters between them, but it’s quite tight.

So a dining table in a new house should definitely be more than 1.2m....

Our current one is 1.2m and it may well stay for some time, since it wasn’t cheap either. But the question was more about how to optimally place a table in the current context or how to accommodate larger table lengths well. Perhaps it is also necessary/useful to enlarge the sliding door from the current 2.6m? Is something like that even technically possible?

It has already been said, place the table lengthwise in the room, so rotated 90°. If the floor plan corresponds to the actual furnishings, there is enough space. It also has the advantage that you can put hot items from the kitchen directly at the end of the table and don’t have to walk around the chairs.

Yes, it does have that advantage. I estimate about 2.5m of space needed including 2 chairs for the width of the table. That is okay with a short table length, but with 2.4m you already run into the projection of the fireplace and piano and can hardly get through.

Well, 2.5m is quite generous. Of course, if it's fully occupied, that might be about right, but with pushed-in chairs, it's definitely less. If you have 75cm distance from the fireplace, that's okay. Then comes a one-meter table, and in everyday life, you still have enough space to walk past it without contortions. I just set up a new 2x1m table today in our approximately 4x4m dining area. That fits pretty well; you shouldn't always orient yourself to banquet halls. Don't worry too much, it will be arranged appropriately.
