As I see it, there is no proper building envelope, but only on one side a building line (the street-side building line with neighboring house corners). Ditto. At the top two places on my cut list are the children's bathroom and the cozy fireplace.

Correct, just because of the not quite centered staircase, mirroring only one floor would mean that room dimensions would have to be adjusted. Where that would become too tight, the house would have to be made wider overall.

I think the bathroom should definitely be moved to the lower left - so that it is above the utility room/guest bathroom on the ground floor. Otherwise, you have the problem again with additional downpipes, etc.


I would rather not sacrifice more garden area. I already find the house oversized as it is. I would rather reduce something in the ground floor office or make the children's rooms smaller. The living area could maybe also become smaller (narrower and less deep).
