I completely agree with you that the piano should be in the living room. Would it be a conceivable option to reconsider your viewing habits, so that the TV goes into the guest room and you thus have a small TV room? If you watch TV anyway, a small room is enough. And for "living" and playing the piano, the larger (living) room. I would love to live like that, but it's not possible with us because of my husband.

A seating option on the west side would be important to me, if only to be able to look out the window on the south side sometimes.

How do you want to look out of a window with a meter-high parapet from a seated position in an armchair? So many suggestions have already been made here on how to improve the situation, but you often find reasons why it won’t work. Keyword "piano," which to me is more like a keyboard. With a room situation like yours, in my view it simply doesn’t work for that thing to take up space in the living room. And to be quite blunt, I also believe that a bigger house including a large living/dining area won’t help you much. Because in my opinion, judging from everything you’ve written, you lack the taste and the knack to arrange your home tastefully! The pictures you’ve posted say it all...

I was referring to, in our case, various TVs, not the piano. We don't own one.

I focused too much on the inside of the living room and I thought the window sides would work on their own.. :-(
