For most of us, it's the weekend from now on. Wouldn't you like to browse the Ikea pages a bit to relax, get some inspiration, and, if you feel like it, then go to IKEA and possibly buy something there? I just took a look around the IKEA pages especially for you ... they make suggestions for "cozy living rooms".

Then I'll confess to being someone who, at the desk, prefers an ice cream parlor chair to a stability ball for a change of pace for the back

If I remember correctly, also does something similar professionally.

Here again one with a 120 cm shelf, the sofa is 2.40 m, the poufs about 75 each. The little piano is in the technology corner, I am of the opinion that the black elements should be left against a darker background so that they do not stand out unpleasantly. Curtains, nicely pulled wide, simulate more window area.

Very good suggestion, ypg - I think if the OP furnishes their living room in this way, it will be a nice room where the whole family likes to spend time. I personally would tend more towards the one with the lighter accent colors from both suggestions, but this is a matter of personal taste.

In my capacity as a dilettante hobby musician, I want to encourage you, OP, to definitely keep the piano in the living room. It is part of your well-being and leisure activities and should therefore not be "banished" to a side room; in that case, I would rather place the TV in another room and also take a very critical look at the book collection and consider which books absolutely have to be in the living room (e.g. because they are beautiful (picture books, for example) or because you constantly read them). All others I would – if they cannot be disposed of – put in a nice bookshelf in the guest room, bedroom, or hallway (or in the bathroom – some visitors will be happy about that, too)!

By the way, just from the photo, I don’t find your living room spatially unattractive at all – it’s not "modern," that’s true – but I think with a suitable, well-chosen design, this can be a room where you like to spend time. Don’t lose courage, don’t get lost in details, but accept things as they are and make the best of it with the means available...

You don't really have books lying around in the living room because you constantly read them, but because they convey coziness and atmosphere. A few visually appealing books are therefore enough in my opinion. Just don't clutter it up with paperbacks.

Everyone has to decide that for themselves. I believe that you should surround yourself with things that are personally important to you, whether that's a huge TV or a collection of medical romance paperbacks.
The latter can be stored in a beautiful shelf or bookcase, which makes the living room just as cozy as a shelf full of Instagram-worthy design books.
In my opinion, when setting up a space, you shouldn't lose sight of who you're doing it for – namely yourself, and not "the" others, whether they are found in real life or on social media.
