I wonder why you even post the plans. Even the most absurd mistakes are subordinated to and defended for the optimal fireplace position. Whether the wardrobes fit – it doesn't matter, even if the chimney stands across the room. I’m also not surprised why the architect no longer puts any energy into the planning. You want it that way. Then just build it. It’s not our money. I’m out of here.

I have and always have been open to suggestions, of course. I don’t like mirroring the stairs because we would like to have the storage space in the ground floor hallway. Mirrored, it looks awkward in the hallway, in my opinion. The chimney actually stands very well on the ground floor (optimal living room width, enough space for TV etc.), on the upper floor I only see the possibility to align the interior wall of the children's room flush with the chimney (up to the end of the chimney) and thus, as you already said, to create a built-in wardrobe and at the same time the built-in wardrobe niche in the bedroom. That way this "dead corner" would be eliminated (but in the children's room that would only be about 80 cm x 50 cm of built-in wardrobe space, a wardrobe would still have to be added).
Would the space then be better utilized in your opinion?

Of course, you can make the rooms bigger, even with the stairwell remaining the same size. Otherwise, I wouldn't be making the suggestion.

Ok, I understand, then simply move the wall of the children's room to the left, which will create additional space while keeping the chimney the same. Sounds very interesting, I will think it over again. You could definitely fit a nice deep built-in wardrobe there. It just means the two rooms become quite "tube-like."

But apart from the chimney on the upper floor, the current one isn’t that bad, is it?
