In economics, one speaks of the fallacy of sunk costs. I believe there is an article about it in the large knowledge wiki. But I think there are too many emotions involved. The OP will not be able to free themselves.

What says.

In the situation you mentioned, the sour apple is the only fruit without a worm.

I really can't give you any advice on that. I can somewhat appreciate Option 1 if it guarantees some form of victory. But that will not happen. I always react suspiciously to: "yes, you can do that, but it will get really expensive." If the lawyer now just turns out to be a better balloon pump again, then you have spent €18,000 on an expert opinion that may not actually help as much as the lawyer believes.

As you know, I am not here in the forum looking for solutions, but because I was asked to write about the progress. My goal remains the same, only the path I have to change. However, I have to work that out by myself; I have 100% support and freedom of decision from my family, even if it goes wrong. I will tell my lawyer that we will not have this expert opinion done and request to apply for the evidentiary preservation procedure. At the same time, we will continue building my daughter's half of the house, but only that one. A construction stop will be imposed on the second side. All defects are identical in both halves of the house and also documented by two expert opinions (one from the contractor, one from us), so that the expert appointed by the court can examine the defective half of the house. I know this is not the optimal solution for winning a lawsuit, but the only one that makes sense for us. I hope my (new) lawyer sees it that way too.

These are really bitter pills. Have you ever thought about going to the media? I mean, this has been asked here before, but I don’t know what your attitude towards it was. This is a feast, especially for the private ones. If it goes really well, they’ll even finish building your house.

I was even asked once, but as one of several potential cases. It was, so to speak, a preliminary selection. However, I declined because I feared exactly what keeps recurring here in the forum. Namely, the "it's your own fault" accusations from the nice neighbors and acquaintances after the broadcast.
