hm ... again the squeeze until they have no air left to breathe. Then comes the inevitable - and in the end, you have nothing at all.

I thought you wanted to put a line under it - then let him run, under conditions that YOU BOTH can handle. IT can't run like this....

GD PS: well-meant advice: with the threat of criminal charges if he doesn’t pay, you are on extremely thin ice - I hope your lawyer did not advise this.

What would you call it when a butcher, without a single employee, without qualifications and expertise, appoints himself as the general contractor and construction manager of a two-family house? Unskilled laborers, coming from wherever, are allowed to work here. They can’t even read the processing instructions on the packaging, let alone apply them? Every, but really every trade is riddled with massive defects, up to complete dismantling, and the expert has determined defects amounting to approximately €100,000, excluding drywall? And yes, that is also the opinion of my lawyer. Furthermore, the threat of pressing charges is not a criminal offense, even if it should not be justified. That the trust between the two parties is gone was already clear beforehand.

We will see.

What is the local construction company doing right now?

We currently have the tile setters in the house. Completely pointless, since there are much more important tasks, but whatever. Between the exterior wall and the floor, due to some chiseling work, there was only half a brick over a width of 25 cm. According to GU2, the tile setters were supposed to "take care of it." I specifically told him to use insulating mortar. Now I have acquired a thermal imaging camera and showed the guys the image. Of course, they had not used insulating mortar and there were long faces, but absolutely no discussion.

Is a GU actually a professional title that requires corresponding education, or is it like with a photographer, where anyone can call themselves that? I really am not an expert, but I imagine it like in a hardware store. The branch manager doesn’t need to have any craft skills. He just has to manage. Isn’t it probably the same with a GU? If yes, it could really get tight with criminal law relevance. Then he may have acted "unknowingly" negligent at most. So in a civil law sense. Does anyone know anything about that?

Hey, I certainly do not want to give you legal advice here (bewahre!). It was a recommendation to consider it because you are acting unfairly and it could be called coercion. By doing so, you make yourself criminally liable, and the actions of your general contractor can be relativized by your crime... Is your lawyer also a butcher?
