I believe what people are so upset about in this thread is, besides the underlying racism, also the fact that you portray your situation as "I can't afford anything," although it is more "what I can afford I don't want." You belong to the top 10% of earners in Germany. The homeownership rate here, I believe, is something over 30%. So there is a 20% gap between these two values, and it is defined by the words "can't lives on the Don't-Want Street."

No, you can't calculate it like that. Nowadays, a home is often inherited or there are retirees living there who built the house 50 years ago without belonging to the top 20%.

There are also quite a few among the top 10% who do not want a house because it involves a lot of work and time that you simply do not have alongside a demanding job. Even landlords of several apartment buildings often rent themselves...

The ownership rate in Germany is about 45%, and only in Switzerland is it lower, around 42%.
In other countries, it is higher, although... when I talk to Swedes, it turns out that the house actually belongs to the bank and will do so until death because only 1% or less is paid off. The Swedes have a different attitude than we do.

5,200€ without children and nothing is supposed to be possible there. We have 2 children and less household income and recently bought a house.... however in the countryside and still at 2.6% interest. You could pay a significantly higher monthly installment, so there is definitely something to be had. It doesn't have to be a new build or a house that is only a few years old. There are also beautiful old houses, possibly even renovated. By the way, those privileged unemployed people do not get all the rent paid. I wouldn't want to live in the sqm at point 4. that would be allocated to us. For 2 people that would be (I believe) 55 or 60sqm maximum.

I'm starting to wonder if it's a troll who's supposed to stir up support for a certain party. Why would someone sign up in a forum just to complain?

For 2 people 60m², for each additional person 15m² extra. For 4 people, therefore, 90m². That is appropriate.

See!
And that’s exactly it: Basically, you're telling me that if, for example, a small cabin with a 100m2 garden is sold for 1 million euros and I can't afford it, it's my own fault!

In principle, the message is: Buy something for 600,000€, and if you don't, it's your own fault.

Great! But you have all thought about the fixed interest rate period, right?
There will be many people who bought in the last 2-3 years and will be driven into ruin because of the interest rate policy if the key interest rate continues to rise. This development is already happening now. Buying a house for 600,000€ is a poverty risk. But you say, if you want it, you should do it, regardless of how dangerous that can be.

And I therefore cannot take the cynicism here against me seriously.

The people writing here obviously inherited themselves, or probably got a good amount of money from mom and dad (or some other relative) for the house purchase, because you only write here about what your houses cost in price, but not what you ultimately paid for them, and that’s what it’s really about!

Here I am accused of thinking "I can’t afford anything." Of course I can afford something, but does anyone here really believe that buying a house for 600,000€ is the same as going on vacation?

Then you probably bought this house somewhere in the East or far away from any big cities. Yes, maybe you can get a house for 150,000€ there—that may be true. But we depend on our jobs here, we come from this region, and this is our home, we feel connected to it because we grew up here and have always lived here. It’s not our fault that the housing market situation particularly hits us hard. It’s not about wanting to enrich myself financially with a house in order to speculate!

Funny that here one is labeled racist even though one is simply telling the truth. But as I said, probably only privileged people write here anyway, because otherwise, I cannot explain how realities are denied here.
