We looked at the Nissan Leaf. Not a station wagon but very spacious.
Comparison of new prices:
Leaf: €34,000
ID3: €46,000
MG5: €33,000

Okay, the MG5 really looks interesting.

Why don't you want a Chinese car? I claim they stole all the technology from us and improved it.

Here, 3-year-old Leafs with 12,000 km are currently coming onto the used market for €22,000.
We were close to switching, but it’s still a lot of money.

But 45k and up for a car is something no normal family can afford. After subsidies, you’re still over 40k. For comparison, the average household net income is 3600€. We are talking about amounts that correspond to annual incomes, which is unrealistic even for the upper middle class.

I think people will have to come to terms with the prices. In 2011, my wife’s new car was a Passat wagon for 24k€. Mid-level model without any extra options. That was 12 years ago or put differently, 3000€ less net income per month than today. The problematic thing is rather, and I don’t absolve myself here, that the mindset doesn’t keep up, because 12 years ago you paid so much less for a good car and now with the house there is naturally more financial burden than before. But even if I have to say it like that, the prices are understandable.

That was also meant for Kati, and with her income she's certainly not an average family. I read that Tesla also gives a bonus, then you're at 37,000. No idea if that's true. But a Golf currently also costs over 30,000. With an electric car, you save on taxes, and with your own photovoltaic system, your consumption costs are cheaper too.

You simply can't have any expectations with the Tesla Y. Neither in terms of exterior or interior design, nor in build quality or cool features. It's pretty much the classic car among electric vehicles now. I test drove it and was very disappointed. Its strength lies only in the low price and the Superchargers. But as a bread-and-butter car, it's probably the Volkswagen among electric cars.

I'm currently eyeing the Polestar, but it's a whole different category, also price-wise ..

My sister has a Tesla (Model 3), it's a really cool car and actually offers enough space for us, but it's somehow more than I want to spend on a car. You're easily looking at 50k. Or do I have a wrong idea of what a new Golf Variant costs?
