Hello again!

I’m pretty surprised that the thread is open again, after it was supposed to be permanently closed because of the racism accusation! My eyes almost popped out when I saw that you could write here again.

Thanks to Pitigliano for his calculation!

Adam’s post also beautifully shows that people in that league don’t see a problem with it. As a developer selling a penthouse for 700,000 (possibly in Berlin or another big city?), it doesn’t even matter who buys it. Someone will buy it! Whether it’s someone from here or somewhere else.

That the middle class in their own country can no longer afford a property that can be paid off before retirement – whatever!!

I know, I’m totally unreasonable and uneducated for simply not wanting to see that the free market regulates everything and you just have to swallow that – I’m so stupid – sorry!

As far as I know, there is no simple service anymore.

Apologies, I am in the harsh economy and hardly familiar with bureaucratic language. We do not place much value on correct phrasing. What service is there and why does someone commit to it if they would be paid so incredibly much better in the private sector?

Unfortunately, this shows your ignorance regarding the public service. It is by no means the case anymore that everyone would like to work there. Those times are long gone and ended several years ago. There will also be no — as you say — "generous" pensions for civil servants who retire after 30 years. Demographic change spares nothing, and mathematics does not care what is stipulated in laws; sadly, my generation will still have to face that. Those who are retiring now (Boomers) hardly notice any of this, as they are both the cause and the beneficiaries of this devastating situation.

Intermediate, upper, and higher service. I don’t mean that the private sector pays better everywhere, but that certainly varies in different regions and industries. From my perspective, the strongest argument for becoming a civil servant is the job security if you are a civil servant for life.

Sad indeed, but I have to agree. Pensioners lull themselves into a security that does not exist. Money does not fall from the sky, it has to be earned.
