For the same reason why we do not have direct democracy, because that would open the door wide to populism. Without being able to address your examples specifically. Only very few people deal with a topic beyond the click-bait headlines and tabloid articles in order to make an informed decision. Therefore, I am very skeptical about polls, especially on such politically heated topics.

Sorry, but with this easy setup I just have to:

Because it's fun.

There you have your one reason :)

For fun, private individuals can also rent a few laps on the Lausitzring and even drive 300 there (if they and the car are able to). I'm sure this is possible on other race tracks as well.

Hello,

I think the problem here is that many of these discussions (especially in the media) are extremely exaggerated and heated. You can no longer have a sensible discussion. And many discussions are just conducted dogmatically; it often seems like no one is really interested in a solution. Regarding the example of the 130 speed limit – for years very successful studies have been circulated saying that it doesn’t bring any benefit at all.
I can’t even assess it conclusively, but when I look at normal traffic, I’m actually glad if I can at least drive 130. Usually, it goes slower. Do the few people who speed at 220 km/h on the highway at night really make that much of a difference?
By now, I am even in favor of the speed limit, but in that case, please also mandate that (highway) construction sites are generally worked on 24/7 with a reasonable number of people. I can well imagine that you would save more CO2 in the end through traffic jam reduction... But then traffic would flow better, and that’s “bad.”
There are so many points that could be tackled relatively simply, but often solutions are not even desired; that would take away the livelihood of countless “experts” and the meaningful basis of many citizen initiatives. Or how do you explain all the NIMBYs?

[*]Shifting truck traffic to rail – but no more tracks shall be built. Here in Bavaria, the planning for the access lines to the Brenner Base Tunnel is being quite successfully blocked. Probably the tunnel will be finished before the plan is even done here, and trucks will keep driving like crazy over the Brenner.
[*]Truck traffic in general – why doesn’t the toll increase by 20% every year? So that this madness finally stops, carrying milk from northern Germany to Bavaria so it returns as alpine yogurt to Hamburg. Or animals being transported for slaughter all over Europe. Or firewood from Eastern Europe to Germany...
[*]Expansion of renewable energy – but please no additional power lines or wind turbines?
[*]Flood protection and preservation of drinking water – try planning a reservoir anywhere...
[*]Traffic in general – why on earth is there still no legal right to home office? That way you could at least get a large part of office workers off the road without some outdated department boss calling his flock into the office because he’s lonely otherwise.

And because nothing gets addressed, everyone is against everything at first...

Best regards,

Andreas

Going fast on the highway is boring, anyone can drive straight ahead. Fun is, for example, the Furka Pass in summer at 9 p.m. and without a passenger, the allowed 80 km/h are more than enough ;)

If I take the populism argument to its logical conclusion, parliamentary democracy also makes no sense. Because with the right mood, populists are simply elected to parliament. There are plenty of examples of this in all countries. But this attitude of the uneducated citizen actually creates a large part of the dissatisfied and enables populism to move from the extreme edges into the center of society.

The Swiss say: "We're doing fine with it," the Brit: "Wtf!" You have to be able to handle direct democracy!
