Regarding energy generation: But that's only Germany. We have a European power grid. Is there a graphic for Europe as well? I doubt that with significant offshore wind power expansion there will still be complete calm periods. Maybe those weren’t calm periods, but rather storms (I still remember that around that time our tomato tent and our pavilion were blown away). There are also newer technologies that don’t have to be simply shut down when there is too much wind. Storage: Cooperations with countries that have the prerequisites for this, such as Norway with Nordlink, already exist. This could also be expanded Europe-wide. Germany is rather average in terms of geography for this. But Alpine countries and in the Balkans, maybe even the Carpathians, could offer much more and better conditions. Clearly, much has to be done, but it also simply has to be tackled, because it was neglected for the last 30-40 years. And also try entirely new approaches. Instead of just leaving old opencast mines to themselves (this is called renaturation, but over decades it is simply just steppe). At least part of it could be converted into large storage facilities. I recently saw a nice documentary about this. There they (as far as I know this was not an opencast mine) upgraded a huge pit into a warm water storage. So basically (very simplified), just sealed, insulated lid put on and a large heating rod installed. Surely there are more clever ideas like this. After all, we have so many great engineers. One more thing I had seen (but haven’t checked yet). China last year installed as much photovoltaics as we have altogether. So we can’t just stand here and say what we have is not enough for our demand. Yes, of course it’s not enough, but we are also simply falling far behind. And I strongly doubt that even if fast breeder reactors deliver what they promise, we would get there faster than with renewables and intelligent solutions regarding grids and storage.

Hello,

You can carry out these calculations to excess. Where do you draw the line? With the electric car, I can also include the production of the brown coal excavator that extracts the coal for the electricity, or the manufacture of the solar panels, and with the combustion engine, I can include the steel production of the drill for the oil well. Tell me the desired result, and I'll put together the appropriate calculation for you....

That's exactly what I mean: a general statement like "the concept or the drive is always better than..." is usually difficult and simply not true. The reality is much more complex.

Best regards,

Andreas

You don't need to get hung up on the details. If it were as simple as partly presented here, both heat pumps and electric cars would be unbeatable in operating costs. But they are not, otherwise, there wouldn't be such long discussions here. This is naturally not only due to technical reasons but also regulatory ones (electricity price). However, this doesn't change the fact that the world is not that simple. Maybe we should just assume once that people are not completely irrational.

Such a heat reservoir is currently being built in Meldorf. Based on the Danish model. They have three of them. It is heated with photovoltaics. .....how was it again.... "Only big dreams have the power to make or change something" The problems are certainly solvable and in a medium-term horizon, hopefully, we will look back and say "why didn't we come across this earlier?"

Okay, the thing about the rolling heater was a bit exaggerated ;) but at its core, I stand by the statement: electric cars are more efficient than combustion engines. We just have to make sure that the electricity is produced as sustainably as possible. But that’s only a matter of time.

And you don't think that a hydrogen tanker can run on hydrogen. Most people, and of course us Germans, tend to find the problem and not the solution. With that attitude, we would never have gotten to the moon. We need visions and smart minds who want to realize them. No one wanted to believe Lilienthal that humans can fly. still believes the Earth is flat. Who in 1800 believed that trains would one day reach over 400 km/h? @Bockstar87 believes that renewable energy doesn't work and is nonsense. Nobody believed Steve Jobs that we would carry supercomputers in our pockets and that watches are smarter than the first space shuttle. just badmouths everything that could possibly help out of the crisis. Because of people like him, this world will perish. Sorry for us, but unfortunately, that's how it is.
