I'll quickly give my two cents. First of all, greetings from Rhein-Sieg-Kreis, where it is not possible to buy a property without inheritance and with a household income of €5200. And yet we (34m & 30w) managed to build a semi-detached house with a similar income (also DINK). Land purchase Nov 2020, construction start Feb 2022. Yes, it was more expensive than in 2011 when my siblings built. Yes, I should have bought a plot of land instead of BMWs back then. Yes, I will be paying it off for a long time, but honestly, with a rate of €958 over 20 years, that's almost a gift. But it never occurred to me to blame others besides myself for what I do and what I don't do.

In all the cases you mentioned, there were/would have been other options that a voter might have expected based on their (subjective) assessment of the preferred party. Nevertheless, you are right that reality sometimes requires a change of course.

There are always multiple options, unfortunately some of them are not compatible with our values.

Certainly, the borders could have been closed in 2015, then hundreds of thousands of refugees who fled Assad's terror would have starved and frozen somewhere in the Balkans.
For me, that is actually not a real alternative.

One could also have avoided the Hartz reforms at the beginning of the 2000s, but then the social system would have imploded, with drastic consequences also for pensions.
That is actually not a real option either.

When I am sailing into a storm, I have 4 options. Turn back or evade, meaning I have to adjust my course. Or I sink myself, which is also no good...
Or I go full speed ahead and hope for the best. That is an option, yes. But the worst imaginable one...

Hope that everything will turn out fine is not a good tactic for governing.

If the borders had been closed, many skilled workers (only from my surroundings) who would then not contribute to the German system would come to my mind. The majority want to be able to provide for themselves and their families.

Why was the name actually changed now?

No idea. Maybe because if you enter Bettkante on Google, clearly ambiguous websites are offered ;) But I can also imagine that the OP has already been muted and blocked (from whichever side) and remains as a user with numbering (for deleted members)

When was there ever really the right time to build a house? There almost never was, it was always difficult.

Sometimes we had extreme interest rates, sometimes extreme prices, lack of materials, lack of construction workers, shortage of land or approval backlogs. Yet some people always built.

Old car, 10 years without a vacation and every penny thrown into repayment. Wife, relatives, grandma and grandpa all helped out. Today it only works turnkey.

If you want to feel Germany in 2022, you just have to read these posts here.
Most people have not even understood what is happening right now. Your income has just halved in recent months. But the liabilities have not. The liabilities will of course not be inflated away. Only the assets.

So out of the 5200 euros income, only 2600 euros purchasing power remain. Whether I turn on the washing machine, fill up the car or buy groceries at Edeka. Prices, like building materials, have almost doubled.
However, incomes stagnate.

I can’t see why uncontrolled immigration should improve anything. Mainly refugees from all over the world enter our social systems, not the labor market. I believe 10 percent of the 1.2 million Ukrainian refugees are in socially insured employment.

Whatever. We can do it!

Hope dies last. Tomorrow it is supposed to be warmer again. That will save you all a lot of electricity again.
