I would only do it if it corresponds to the course of the property. It is quite a tripping hazard for children, guests, and in old age.

In addition to the already mentioned pitfall (why would anyone deliberately install such a thing?), the financial aspect also comes into play, as the construction work becomes even more expensive. Basement underneath as well?

There is no positive aspect to such a step. If a separation is to be made, then by some kind of "wall" or similar (low wall, counter, very different floor coverings...).

I once viewed a house that had a step there purely for aesthetic reasons. That was a deal-breaker for me. Tastes vary; some like it, others don't. But I definitely wouldn't want to deal with the hassle of vacuuming around it all the time. The trip hazard was already mentioned.

Our living room is separated from the dining area by two steps. I find that super annoying, it's not worth using the robot vacuum on the ground floor. (Luxusprobleme ) Even when vacuuming yourself, you always have to lift the vacuum cleaner up and down the steps.

Yes, such a step is extremely annoying and basically only has disadvantages. Normally, no one voluntarily goes through something like that. The reasons have all already been listed.

It’s better to separate the living room with a door and design it differently visually; that also has a positive practical use.

Creating non-age-appropriate housing without necessity is somehow "unwise," right?

Just think, among other things, about the resale. Something like that restricts the buyer pool unnecessarily per se.

- Families with wheelchair users
- Elderly people
- People who dislike steps
- People who do not want to pay your additional costs for this crutch
- etc.

I can amusingly keep writing like this

And this is just one example of why it would be unwise, just because you initially find it nice. There are certainly countless examples beyond resale as well.

Just imagine you end up in a wheelchair or your wife, children, parents, etc.
