Whether Behjälplig is practical: I was initially skeptical about whether the whole thing would work well, but judging by the first impression, this auxiliary hinge seems to fulfill its purpose properly. The dishwasher door stays in any desired position, closes almost by itself at the end, and doesn’t look as silly as I feared.
How long the plastic parts will last under constant use remains to be seen – but I think that if complaints about worn hinges increase, Ikea will make a version out of aluminum/metal (just like the guide rails are already made of aluminum) – hopefully.
To prevent the plastic sliders from wearing out too quickly, I will apply some Ballistol (or a similar lubricant) where the sliders glide up and down in the guide rail and also on the two hinges at the bottom.
Regarding the additional weight on the dishwasher door: it’s only the weight of the two wooden strips screwed onto the dishwasher door – they might weigh about 1 kg (if that) – the front door itself doesn’t hang on the dishwasher but rests on the hinges of Behjälplig!
