Here I don’t know, he has an Australian driver’s license, where it’s common to take it on an automatic, and there are almost only automatics there. In Germany, however, it is recognized accordingly only as such.Oh, is this distinction still around today? – I still remember from early childhood that "Automatic" was almost like a warning label behind the model designation on the trunk lid. But back then, we also still had an emperor ;-) "Only automatic" strictly speaking only applies to torque converters and CVTs, and actually excludes DSG.
Rarely. In over 10 years that I have lived here and the 20-30 times I have driven that route now, I have experienced that maybe 1-2 times. On the other hand, there are also trips at the other extreme, where you really stand for hours and need over 10 hours. With manual transmission, yes. I have never managed 600 km without traffic jams.
Exactly. That’s all we want anyway. It may be that the family’s photos already rule it out, then we can save ourselves the trip.Well, the family can take photos. And also use water level gauges. I would also rather not delegate taking core drill samples.
My husband’s car doesn’t even go more than 120 with a tailwind. :DBut only if you drive at night or to the east. 120 km/h average over 5 hours means >180 km/h when free…
We have a little bit of that too. But not that much, it’s rather like a “through connections” property, it’s not actively marketed / advertised now.And I’d probably also somehow be afraid that otherwise the property would just be gone.
I’m also a bit amazed how many people see that as no problemo. You also have to consider the circumstances. I have no chance to rest somehow after the ordeal before I have to function and work again in everyday life. And it is an ordeal, I find driving very concentration-intensive on long distances. Over Christmas I told my husband that I find it way more intense than 8 hours of working, because at work you can at least stare at the wall or into space for 5 minutes or get yourself a coffee. On long distance you mostly stare for 3 hours on a very monotonous highway but still have to be fully attentive the whole time, because there is traffic around you. I’m no longer 20 and find it extremely exhausting. But the judgmentality in internet forums has always been above average, you shouldn’t take it too seriously. We will do it – we will definitely drive down there to have a look if it comes into question. But not Fri-Sun, rather with a few days in a vacation rental to rest. Maybe also with a rental car so we can both drive, or by train. We’ll see.Otherwise, I’m also not a fan of long car trips and am surprised how many here think that going there on Friday or Saturday and back Sunday is absolutely no problem. Yes, it’s possible, but I don’t find it extremely “easy” either.
