Defensive offer, or have house prices become so expensive?

Here I don’t know, he has an Australian driver’s license, where it’s common to take it on an automatic, and there are almost only automatics there. In Germany, however, it is recognized accordingly only as such. Rarely. In over 10 years that I have lived here and the 20-30 times I have driven that route now, I have experienced that maybe 1-2 times. On the other hand, there are also trips at the other extreme, where you really stand for hours and need over 10 hours. Exactly. That’s all we want anyway. It may be that the family’s photos already rule it out, then we can save ourselves the trip. My husband’s car doesn’t even go more than 120 with a tailwind. :D We have a little bit of that too. But not that much, it’s rather like a “through connections” property, it’s not actively marketed / advertised now. I’m also a bit amazed how many people see that as no problemo. You also have to consider the circumstances. I have no chance to rest somehow after the ordeal before I have to function and work again in everyday life. And it is an ordeal, I find driving very concentration-intensive on long distances. Over Christmas I told my husband that I find it way more intense than 8 hours of working, because at work you can at least stare at the wall or into space for 5 minutes or get yourself a coffee. On long distance you mostly stare for 3 hours on a very monotonous highway but still have to be fully attentive the whole time, because there is traffic around you. I’m no longer 20 and find it extremely exhausting. But the judgmentality in internet forums has always been above average, you shouldn’t take it too seriously. We will do it – we will definitely drive down there to have a look if it comes into question. But not Fri-Sun, rather with a few days in a vacation rental to rest. Maybe also with a rental car so we can both drive, or by train. We’ll see.

Hello,

not to offend you, but I think you once wrote in some thread that you don’t have children... otherwise you wouldn’t write something like that....

2 years old is an _extremely_ exhausting age when it comes to car rides. They no longer just sleep a few hours at a stretch, but also can’t be controlled by reading aloud, audio plays or even watching tablet, for that matter.

But that’s really off-topic...

Regarding what others write, it’s true. Make sure at least one of you gets their ass down there and looks personally!

Yes, 1200 km in two days is really annoying, especially in winter. But doable. If necessary, with a proper rental car. If necessary, do a part of the trip by train or even plane and only the rest with rental car.

How does the saying go?

“Where there’s a will, there’s a way; where there isn’t, there are excuses...”

Best regards,

Andreas

We will go down there anyway, we want to move there. But I do find it a bit presumptuous that it’s being acted like we have to jump into the car immediately and rush there completely unprepared. We have more than one property in mind. The plot won’t run away because it’s not being advertised. We still have an existing property that we are particularly interested in (I would actually like to introduce it here and start a thread, but I’m too scared now o_O), and a second plot as an option. And I can’t drive down there several times in 3 weeks. So after this one, we’ll let the family have a look while we simultaneously arrange an appointment with a real estate agent for the existing property, and wait to hear back about plot 2. So that with one trip we can inspect / evaluate ALL options as much as possible.

Don't understand your outrage. If it’s really that difficult with a child - I really don’t have one ;) - then go alone. For many Germans, 600km is not a distance. Would have thought Aussies think similarly. If it doesn’t work with a child, then rent an E, A6, 5-series with the necessary assistance systems and go for it.

Be that as it may. This won’t be wellness. And someone who complained about their situation here every 5 minutes during summer just has to work on changing that. You’re here because of the property, already almost 20 pages on Fire and eventually want to drive there completely relaxed. What families like can look quite different for you. Anyone who’s ever tried an MTB trail or ski slope knows how flat everything looks in photos.

What do you think, with your current knowledge, how will the construction proceed?

and why should she drive down if she already sees in picture 2 that she doesn’t like the view anyway?

That is our thought. Or rather, the fear is that it will simply be too steep to build on.
