Defensive offer, or have house prices become so expensive?

Somehow I don’t understand this thread:
Is this about vacation trips or about inspecting a property that is being considered for purchase?

Primarily:
great property, then it will soon be gone. So just go.
Bad property: then just go to rule it out as a potential building plot before any more threads are opened here.

Things like, “let’s see…”, “first the family can take a look” etc. I consider pure nonsense if you are very specific yourself, afraid of exorbitant construction costs, or there is personal pressure. Maybe you don’t want to after all?! Personally, curiosity would already teleport me to the place… in other words: I would already be there :D

If it’s about flying, I agree with you.
Regarding voluntariness… I don’t see it.
But first, only one person could drive, the other with the child stays home; on the other hand, many people do this, especially vacation trips over distances like that, and with 2 toddlers… it’s not a baby anymore :) I only know people who manage it. As a passenger, you can take care of the child if it’s not sleeping??!
I’d say: where there’s a will…! Excuses mean something!

Tell me, can't your husband drive there early on Sunday, look around for 3 hours, and be back in the evening? 600 km mostly on the highway can be done in 5 hours for a round trip.
Does he leave early tomorrow morning and be back in the evening? There's video calling for discussions.

I find the 'effort' reasonable for a 500k+ investment. Otherwise, someone is always hired for 2-3k for everything.

Oh, does that distinction still exist today? - I still remember from early childhood that "automatic" was practically displayed as a warning label behind the model designation on the trunk lid. But back then we also still had a Kaiser ;-)
"Only automatic" strictly speaking only applies to torque converters and CVTs, and actually excludes DSG as well.

With a manual transmission, definitely. I've never managed 600 km without traffic jams.

Well, the family can take pictures. And also use inflatable gauges. I would also rather not delegate taking core samples.

But only if you drive at night or to the east. 120 km/h over 5 h on average means >180 km/h when free…

I think it's completely normal to let the family on site check first to see if it could even fit. Even after the first okay, I would probably be too curious to wait long anyway. The questions are getting more and more specific now. And I would probably also be somehow afraid that otherwise the property would just be gone. Otherwise, I'm not a fan of long car rides either and I'm surprised how many here think that going there on Friday or Saturday and back on Sunday would be no problem at all. Yes, it's doable, but I don't find it that extremely "easy" either.
