Defensive offer, or have house prices become so expensive?

Those who are wealthy and have not prepared the tax grounds for their passing at least ten years ante mortem love the tax authorities more than their own offspring. I am increasingly getting the impression: the middle class WANTS to become impoverished. Because, in contrast to the (also performance-bearing!) precarious class, it could use the design instruments of the rich and just misses doing so. If the middle class donated its avoidable inheritance tax to the lower class, hordes of sociologists would have to find new jobs. That would be the most effective brake against redistribution upwards, but the German "Michel"'s favorite garment is the nightcap.

Do we have to understand that now? I clearly say that we are emotionally attached to the house and you say that it’s about profit maximization for me? Huh? No, on the contrary, if it were about profit for me, I would sell off the house and squander the money. Instead, I want to preserve the house for the grandchildren in the family. What is wrong with that?

You are also hindered by your unfounded fear of hyperinflation, according to which money of today would already be worthless by tomorrow morning. That would correspond to an inflation rate of a few million percent. We had 4% or 5% for a year now. Due to supply chain problems and worldwide raw material price increases, not because the euro is being inflated away. EVERYONE is paying more.

What speaks against, in the case of inheritance, pledging the property in such a way that you can pay the tax and service the laughably small loan due to the high collateral? Then you can do whatever you want with the house.

And: If inflation remains, that devalues your debts – if one already believes there is a permanent depreciation of the money, one should incur debts.

All in all: You inherit a stroke of luck that is unbelievably cheap to settle with the tax that accrues. So what exactly is the problem? I have read the thread and still do not understand.

Maybe before a family council, get advice from a person with financial insight? Could be very well-invested money before one becomes a victim of their own thinking errors.

------------

Regarding inheritance tax: It is actually intended to prevent the effect that wealth accumulates exponentially across generations, because wealth is also linked with power and otherwise democracy is lost. Just because it visibly works poorly is no reason to abandon it altogether.

To 100% inheritance tax: THEN you would have a 100% meritocracy, in which everyone has to achieve something themselves to become anything during their lifetime. Does anyone want that?
So, the party that always talks about meritocracy wants that the least.

(By the way, I don’t want that either)

That’s just one possible idea or option since you said you didn’t know what to do with the money, that it loses value, etc. and apparently aren’t considering any other ways to secure your assets.

Well, "first world problems" has already been said. If you inherit such a building and can afford to just keep it for the grandchildren… well, then the 75k inheritance tax, which was assumed here hypothetically, is probably a small matter? How do you intend to maintain a property of this size until the solvent grandchildren take it over? Heating costs, garden, maintenance? How do the grandchildren actually buy it from you or are you giving it to them - little tip, you can also prepare for that, otherwise gift tax will come ;-)

Honestly, I believe your outrage is contrived. If you seriously believe in preserving and passing on the building (even unused/unrented) to the grandchildren, that little tax probably won’t be your main problem.

Well, it would depend on what the state does with the confiscated inheritance. If only highways are built with it and [Abegeordneten Diäten] are increased, then yes. If everything is invested in education and equal opportunities, it will also be easier for disadvantaged people to achieve something themselves!
