The real craziness is refusing to take out a loan to keep an apparently valuable property. Look at it the other way around, you get a property worth 2 million with an investment of 75k each. Now that's what I call a return.

Strange, I see it differently. My father had to work extremely hard and pay a lot of taxes his whole life for the house. When he dies, it will be taken away from us – we also lived there for a long time. I find that unfair.

A different question, how is the value determined in such cases? Does the tax office send an expert or do they have their own procedures for that?
