Defensive offer, or have house prices become so expensive?

I can fully agree with you and think you are doing everything right. It is definitely very nice for your little one to live near loving grandparents, aunts, cousins, etc. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it will work out with one of the others (both?).

Thank you! The current situation is that we are trying to arrange a viewing appointment for the end of the week with the broker of a property that interests us. Tomorrow we will speak with our financing bank about our options. However, we are now considering selling first and moving into my sister's rental apartment, simply to be closer down there and be able to view things without any hassle, so I see little problem there. We are also currently talking to an energy consultant recommended by an old school friend (they renovated an old building from the 1930s with him). If we can organize it, we would hire the man to inspect the old house with us. We are very interested in the property as it is very conveniently located in terms of our family, has fiber optic internet (rare), the plot is very large, and the house is also nice visually. However, we see 3 options. 1. Renovation of the old house if reasonably possible and financially feasible 2. Demolition of the old house and new construction on the plot 3. Leaving the old house and building new, then renovating the old house in the medium term and possibly renting it out (it is unlikely that we will choose option 3). Edit: While we are already down there anyway, we will also take a look at the hillside plot ourselves.

I interpreted post #128 as searching calmly from a location near family, temporarily staying in a rented apartment on anchor.

That’s the idea. We won’t leave the properties that really appeal to us unexamined (everything with fiber optic is simply shortlisted. That has the highest priority for us), but if none of those fit, we’re also considering just moving into the rented apartment. However, it would feel easier for me to leave my beloved bathtub behind if I already knew a property where I could drive to and stroll around when the small apartment annoys me. :P

In the vicinity of which city would you like to build? Maybe I can give you a tip regarding a plot of land or an existing property.

My suggestion might be a bit unusual, but I'll dare to say it anyway. I don't know how big your sister's apartment is, how much rent you will pay, or whether both of you work from home or not. But maybe it would be an option, just to try out, to rent a small additional apartment nearby and thus somewhat relieve the "tightness" (?). It's clear you can't and don't want to "relocate" your sweetheart, ;-) but maybe for hobbies, working, playing, bathing, storage space, retreat, recovery, or whatever else. If it doesn't prove useful or isn't needed after all, a rental apartment can be canceled quickly. Just an idea, if rents in your desired area are affordable.
