A property is just as much an investment asset as money in the bank, when you break it down. You wouldn't start complaining if you inherited stocks that were worth significantly less ten years ago and thus weren't taxed. For you, it's about the emotion. Therefore: ... Exactly that.

But you do realize that 95% of these houses have the same amount of debt against them and that is why it is something completely different from a debt-free house worth over 1.5 million?

Yes. Minus the debts, of course. That’s why your comparison of the new buildings with your house doesn’t hold.

Oh, I see, misunderstanding. I only wanted to clarify the value of the properties with the comparison. So comparing the houses - not the people.
