Almost exclusively tenants will be affected by the enormous back payments.
But that doesn't change the fact that owners also have to bear the higher price. Example with my son: until February about 6 cents, now about 12 cents per kwh. That already means a doubling from around €130 to €260 per month. Added to that is Habeck's allowance from October of maybe 5 cents, which means another €100 more per month. From February 23, we'll see what the provider wants; on the usual comparison portals, there is currently nothing below 24 cents. He wanted to build a new house next year because the house is old and just barely enough for 2 people, but now they have had a child and need more space. Both earn roughly average for this area. But right now a lifelong dream is bursting, years of planning are going down the drain.
A change in the next few years would be right, but not within a few months!
Of course, overall we are doing well, especially when looking worldwide. But that doesn't mean the masses choose their washing machine by its color. Many people currently can't even choose a washing machine; when the old one breaks, they have to try to get a used one.
But the building problem is not directly related to the rising gas prices. We couldn't buy anymore now either.
We paid about €80 to €90 for gas in the 75sqm rental apartment (25-year-old multi-family house) (unfortunately I don't know the cent/kwh there). Now we have a 100sqm house and pay €245 per month at 16 cents/kwh. And then another €120 for electricity. No, I absolutely did not expect that in the household planning and now there is hardly anything left for saving/reserves/special repayment. But now, of course, as a homeowner, I have eagle eyes on the two meters and so far I am positively inclined. The only thing that worries me is the lack of planning security due to lack of experience.
And of course a gentle change would probably be more pleasant, but that doesn't necessarily make it easier than being thrown straight into cold water. Maybe in 20 years we will say...
All just hypotheses...
