That is wrong! Generating electricity from gas yourself and then converting it into heat with the heat pump is more efficient.

If you use cheap, fossil gas from Russia, then yes.
Otherwise not.
PS:
That is exactly what the heat pump hype of recent years is based on. In winter, when it gets tight, the gas power plants kicked in. But that no longer works now, which is why electricity prices will explode in winter ;)

Get well soon.

Uhm. Why heat pump? High-temperature fuel cells reach up to 1000 degrees. The rest is then electricity. That's the same as combined heat and power - just without all the mechanics.

Where else is energy supposed to be "lost"?

I once talked about this with people from a university a few years ago... it's not that simple with the fuel cell, it is quite "picky", doesn't like load changes, etc.

Nonsense, what does the origin of gas have to do with it? Even though you write that it is physically very simple, you seem to lack basic knowledge. Here in numbers: Burning gas for heat: 100% efficiency Gas power plant + heat pump: 40% * 500% = 200%

With this naïve calculation, do you seriously dare to question the basic physical knowledge of others?

Sorry, but how long did you have physics? Until grade 9?

PS:
Economic efficiency is not pure physics. It also includes the ratio of gas price to electricity price and of course the additional costs of the heat pump...
But business administration probably wasn’t taught until grade 9 either ;)
