Old stoves have not been approved since 2024. This is not about other countries. And don’t worry, our fireplace is new and does not bother the neighbors, our chimney had to be far enough away.

But that doesn’t help. It takes a very long time to create oil and gas. If you cut down trees that have reached the end of their life anyway or use dead wood and then reforest, you immediately have CO2 uptake again. And you have new fuel in 20 to 30 years. You don’t have any of that with oil and coal.

To my knowledge, nobody wants to process that.

But wood does die, after all, even all by itself. Just walk through the forests and see what’s lying around.

The first is wrong. How do you come to that conclusion? Oil and coal take just as long(!!!) to bind CO2 as trees do. Because oil and coal originated from trees at a time when the necessary microorganisms for decay did not yet exist. Therefore, the second part of your comment is correct: oil and coal never form again. But decay takes decades, burning takes hours. That is THE difference. I ask openly: In your opinion, how many trees must be planted for one burned tree to be CO2 neutral? And how many for one naturally decaying tree? (I have heavily edited this)

Correction: "planted 50 years ago" Although that is very simplified - a real forest takes 500 years to properly bind CO2. This is because the trees need to be able to decay on site for that to work. If you remove them from the forest, the forest dies and the CO2 capacity of the commercial forest goes to zero. Why does this have to be proven anew in every second "energy" thread? It’s all stated every day in all sorts of (non-Springer) media...
