Gas prices - Where is gas still affordable?

Yes, but 16 years ago were completely different times. Both politically and socially. For example, if we had started the transition 5 years ago, we would be much further ahead now.
The point I want to make is that the CDU is still the same party as 16 years ago, but all the other parties and society have changed a lot since then. The technical possibilities nowadays are also different than they were 16 years ago.

Then it is all the better that they are currently just letting everyone else get on with it.

Yes, we actually started the transition about 22 years ago. But it was precisely the parties that are now in power who relied on gas as an interim solution and successfully pushed it through. Now that is coming back to haunt us.

Yes, I am by no means a fan of the Greens and their policies. But what Habeck and co. have managed lately does give some hope. Sure, there have been severe setbacks as well, but that’s just how politics works.

Not a fan either, but now let's be honest, I vote for the party that, in my opinion, delivers the best governance and wants to enable the best possible life for all of us and according to my moral compass. Currently, that is by far the Greens. Everything else can be thrown in the bin.

Yes, I meant our domestic political situation. It can really become serious if the forecasts turn out to be accurate.

Our own sanctions hit us harder, as we run the risk of sliding into a massive recession and social division due to the "counter-sanctions," which according to Russia are officially not sanctions.
If there actually are energy shortages, I see the chance of internal unrest as not unlikely. I believe Ms. Baerbock was relatively honest in her communication towards Canada. And Ms. Faeser has rhetorically prepared in advance as well and has already labeled potential protesters as right-wing.
And Russia is at an advantage as an autocracy. Protests are suppressed, there is no freedom of information, many Russians are already poor anyway, energy is sufficient, and so is foreign currency.
I also have the feeling that the media here are not reporting deeply enough. The payment to India that many are upset about was, in my opinion, the "reward" for circumventing Western sanctions by India buying oil, refining it, and selling it back to us.

By the way, I consider the government's communication on this topic to be really bad. I mean the communication to the outside. In advance, there was hesitation, and afterwards it was announced that no more energy carriers would be sourced from Russia. Sorry, but that opens the floodgates for countermeasures.

Sure, even a blind person can see that, as you meant it. But since there will be no unrest here (I could be wrong), I have responded to the matter as I see it.

Concrete examples please, where do the sanctions hit us harder? And please do not argue with could and would. The sanctions are affecting Russia now and today, and massively so, and at the current course it will take decades to return to the level of early 2022. It always only looks like small successes, but these always have a long tail.
