Yes, I meant our domestic political situation. It can really get bad if the forecasts come true like that.
Our own sanctions hit us harder, since we run the risk of sliding into a massive recession and social division due to the "counter-sanctions" which, officially according to Russia, are not sanctions.
If there actually are energy shortages, I see the chance of internal unrest as not unlikely. I think Ms. Baerbock was relatively honest in her communication towards Canada. And Ms. Faeser has rhetorically already prepared by stamping potential demonstrators with the right-wing label.
And Russia has an advantage there as an autocracy. Protests are suppressed, freedom of information does not exist, many Russians are already poor anyway, there is enough energy and also foreign currency reserves.
I also have the feeling that the media here do not report deeply enough. The payment to India, which many people are upset about, was in my opinion the "reward" for circumventing the Western sanctions by India buying oil, refining it, and selling it back to us.
By the way, I consider the government's communication on this topic really bad. At least the communication to the outside. There was hesitation beforehand and then it was announced that no more energy sources would be purchased from Russia. Sorry, but that opens the floodgates for countermeasures..
I would like to warmly recommend Habeck’s Instagram channel to you. I find it very refreshing. He regularly explains there what he is doing and why, and even occasionally appears in livestreams where you can ask questions yourself. You also get a good insight into the deeper backgrounds, as he often goes into great detail. The "old" media usually only scratch the surface and speculate about everything. And you can see how easy it is to get information from him. Don’t ask me why the media don’t simply use all this information as well.
I believe the channel is mostly only known to younger people, but it is very, very well received there. Every minister should handle things like that.
