That may be. The architect had also suggested that we should first properly plan the room program; the exterior appearance can still be adjusted later as desired.

I couldn’t quite understand that.

I don’t believe there was a major communication problem. After all, we had a draft that was approved for detailed planning. Until the vetoes came from the structural engineer and here from the forum regarding the structural disadvantages. As laypeople, we are not aware of such things... as it was visualized, we would have loved to have built it. The adjustments then appeared more intentional than skillful — the dimensions no longer fit, etc. — therefore, it should in the end be more down-to-earth and, above all, structurally safer...

No, Bauhaus does not exist without Cubism; uniqueness without Bauhaus, on the other hand, very much so – with style mix even more so.

My point exactly, the eyeliner comes last.

In post no. 7 there is a ten-line block (the third of your reply to Maria16) where it first becomes clear that the architect’s proposal conceptually deviates from your original sketch.

Something different. 11ant, you once said that the overhang of the hip roof looks more massive in reality than in the sketch.

We imagine it roughly like the house Walmdach208 on the Luxhaus page. Unfortunately, I am not allowed to link it here. That's how we had imagined it for the flat roof variant as well, which later turned out to be not or only hardly feasible.

I went through everything calmly once again with my wife; we also looked at various houses in the city villa and Bauhaus categories on websites. The conclusion is that we are satisfied with the latest plan and have not seen any real alternatives that wow us. Surely, a few things can still be adjusted, but the basic concept fits. I prefer the shallower hipped roof, my wife prefers the more classic hipped roof. That still needs to be clarified, but it's not an issue.

All in all, building a house is always a matter of compromises and finding the smallest common denominator. By now, my wife is no longer to be persuaded against the hipped roof (except possibly by the building authority). So I think it fits.

However, there were still concerns from 11ant that the area between the kitchen and the basement stairs might be too small. We'll find out on Thursday. It is possible that the current concept could still fail because of this. How much space should be required there?

Try googling "Stadtvilla im Bauhaus-Stil Vorderbrüggen."

I don't think it's that unusual to combine styles in that way. I really like the house shown there. Despite the hipped roof, it has more "Bauhaus" elements than our design.

You could definitely use brick cladding or partial brick cladding on something like that. Or come up with another idea to move away from the white, maintenance-intensive exterior facade.

Personally, I would not describe this building as Bauhaus and do not see any elements of the Bauhaus style there.

Since the Bauhaus style has become quite popular in recent years, many sellers use the term, but often they are simply square boxes with/without flat roofs and a splash of anthracite on the facade. To me, that has nothing to do with Bauhaus.

Nevertheless, if you have found what you are looking for, no matter how you want to call it, then that is good!
