Exactly, that’s what I mean. 2 full stories are not necessarily required since there is a basement. So if it’s purely about space, a gable roof with a lower knee wall etc. is also possible.

For us, a city villa with a hip/pyramid roof actually serves only the appearance.

The question I ask myself is whether you can really save more than 10k here or if the amount is actually significantly lower.

Edit: Because we always planned with the city villa, we naturally always had the two full stories. But this is not necessarily required, of course it also depends on the savings...

So more than 10,000 EUR would surprise me, although I do not see the advantage of two full floors as a basement replacement but rather in the unrestricted furnishing options due to the absence of sloping ceilings. This can potentially save floor space.

However, a town villa with a gable roof - if it really has to be - always looks a bit strange to me, so I would also rather do without the full floor (for aesthetic reasons).

Yes, I see the advantage in both areas. Regarding furnishability and floor space, I see problems that can definitely be ignored if there is a huge price difference. Exactly, a townhouse with a gabled roof does not look good. That is why we are actually considering switching completely to 1 1/2 floors or similar if it also makes a huge difference in price.

So ask your [GU], but I don't expect "enormous" in the sense of five figures.

if you forgo roof windows, dormers, or gables on 1.5-story buildings, it will certainly be cheaper than a two-story house with a hipped roof. However, I would always ask the respective construction company, as the price differences can be significant. A gable roof house with a knee wall (approx. 1m) then also offers less space than two full floors.

Best regards Sabine

Isn't the definition of a city villa always a 2 full-storey house with a hipped roof?
