The idea of leaving out the door from the garage to the house has already come up. It has somehow lost its appeal since the kitchen has now moved to the other side of the house. Whether I go directly from the garage into the house, through the wardrobe and the hallway into the kitchen, or come out of the garage under the roof through the main entrance into the hallway & kitchen.....

What do you think? The door is certainly also a considerable cost factor.

We would then have a very large wardrobe. However, this step does not bring any space-saving potential.

How often does it really happen that when you come home with groceries, it is pouring rain? - In the weather-wise "peace case" you don't really need this front door to garage gate canopy for these 5 meters. And it also makes it easier to put up the garage next year. So remove the passage door AND extend the canopy only up to the edge of the house. Put the garage later in the same alignment and (hopefully also without visualization) done.

Oh, post no. 450 (SEL 6.9)

11ant, I believe that would negatively impact the house's appearance too much. It was incredibly important to me that the garage is perceived as a unit with the house. I can't imagine it without the beam. The roofing function was not the primary driver of this idea (honestly, not a driver at all). Otherwise, I probably would have commissioned a 6x6m prefab garage right away = foreign body.

I would rather not remove or shorten the beam.

Regarding the door Garage --> House, I am currently tending to actually leave it out. I just worry that I might regret it later. That's one of those typical points that needs to settle for 2-3 days; then I think it's simply a matter of deciding. I have to get used to the thought.

What does SEL 6.9 mean? Was that a user who was similarly maintenance-intensive?

So with the connecting section, but shorter. The unity is achieved through the alignment of the connecting section / garage in the same plane. The finishing strip above the connecting section will be new once the garage is added, and the final plaster on the connecting section will only be applied then. Then it will be "seamless."

That was the top model of the 450 SEL (forty years ago), basically a disguised AMG. The outwardly staid brother (sedan) of the 450 SLC 5.0. Or if you like: a 745i from Mercedes.

Door to the garage ... You have a basement, right? Then, in my opinion, you can do without this door (if the garage is only used for parking vehicles, not as a basement replacement and workshop). However, I would only remove the door if it disrupts the floor plan. I do not see a major cost factor.

In the floor plan, the door is not disturbing. The question is just how expensive it is. And the risk of break-ins would also be reduced without a door.

Bicycles etc. will also be stored in the garage. Maybe empty bottles and such as well.
