Do you have a photo of your sunshade ready?
Aren't there nowadays relatively weather-resistant awnings that might also withstand rain (nanotechnology or something)?
Because a fixed overhanging roof, as you often see on city villas, I don't find nice and it also takes away heat energy from you to warm the house!?
Not directly from mine right now, but they are the currently quite common anthracite-colored aluminum canopies with glass and an underslung awning. So if you Google "terrace canopy anthracite aluminum glass" you'll find various examples; ours is, for example, from Venomenaal, but there are thousands of providers who all offer almost the same. They are mostly modular systems that you can also expand into a cold winter garden (but I'm not a fan of that). Whether it visually fits the house, of course, depends on the house. If the house is somewhat clean in design, I usually actually perceive such canopies as a visual enhancement.
Regarding awnings without a canopy... honestly, I have no idea. However, I assume that no matter how it is coated... as soon as the awning is rolled up wet, you get problems with mold.
