A rooftop terrace can be very nice if you do it right!

A rooftop terrace is very nice if you can use and maintain it within your living space... if it is therefore central to your daily life. But it is not here. Here, the outdoor access to the terrace/garden is more accessible. In this respect, you will make an effort in the first year to use it now and then for a drink, but most likely not anymore afterwards because it involves the hurdle of the "stairs." Watering the pots becomes a must, not a want. If the rooftop terrace is only accessible from the children's rooms, it is a no-go zone for adults anyway. If it is accessible to everyone through the rooms, then its use for parties with friends is excluded because the children need their own privacy and quiet zone. Other options? Don't plan a rooftop terrace. At least not for adults... for the children, an extended play area if they are old enough. It will become a smoking corner.

Last night I was still thinking, if these rooms were swapped, with the bathroom facing the terrace, then later there would be the possibility to build an outdoor sauna on a small part of the area and then have a kind of wellness area there.... So duck and cover!

A rooftop terrace only really makes sense on the penthouse in multi-family houses. Otherwise, it’s like Yvonne says. I also don’t see a sauna there because it’s single-story.

If it were mine, I would plan an angled bungalow with a gable roof. Above the living room (west), I would open up to the roof, and the south side is for the children.

Mirroring also brings the problem of drainage. The bathroom is located either above the dining area or above the dressing room.
