I find the ceiling heights still acceptable. However, I personally wouldn't build anything under 2.55m. The window width, on the other hand, is quite small. Ours are 175 x 135 rough construction size and I already find that rather tight. Of course, it also depends on the quantity.

The 80cm behind the garage is complete nonsense. What is supposed to happen there? You might as well give it to the neighbor. I'd rather make the garage wider and enjoy having more space inside.

No, the windows are not tight (e.g. once normal and once floor-to-ceiling per child) – merely below what Oberhubers think they have to have according to current fashion. The ceiling height is the same: 255 cm – who cares about 4 cm – it’s not a pygmy measure and I don’t care if others want to live on a bigger scale. And I claim that an extra step depth matters more in practice.

This is about Biedermüller’s own home and not about ey Alda look at my fat city villa

Ceiling height would be far too low for me, I would not plan a finished ceiling height under 2.60m (better 2.70m). In the case of floor-to-ceiling windows, the plan usually shows the raw construction measurement and the floor structure still has to be deducted from that. For a double-wing window that you want to walk through, you should already take 1.76m in width (or of course more).

Best regards
Sabine

If it were about symmetrically double-wing terrace doors, I would recommend 226 or 251, 176 would be okay for asymmetrically double-wing terrace doors, but when it comes to French balconies, 151 cm is also sufficient symmetrically.

Where does the craze for the delusion of having to have King Size room heights come from? Olivia Jones may be tall, but even if she wanted to wear a hat on top of her high heels: she has never been a guest at my place or presumably at the majority of the other discussants.

When I go from my 250 cm room height to my uncle’s with 238 (and sometimes even only 232 cm) room height, I never walk around hunched in the house. Neither does the uncle himself, although he physically exceeds me. Le Corbusier found rooms 226 cm high suitable for a resident nearly 183 cm tall. By the way, it strikes me as absurd to build rooms higher today than in times when lamps dangled from ceilings.

The height of the rooms does influence the comfort factor. Low rooms quickly feel more cramped and oppressive. A neighbor has 2.40m standard height from a prefabricated house provider - I immediately found that unpleasant. However, this also depends a lot on the size of the rooms. 40m² living room and 2.40m room height simply do not go together in my opinion.

In addition, there are nowadays also cabinets that are indeed 2.40m high. Try placing those if you only have 2.45m height!

this is not a delusion, it just looks much nicer. In the past, rooms were smaller and there was no living-dining-and kitchen area that is continuously over 40sqm. In smaller rooms, a low ceiling height does not feel as cramped. We used to have only about 2.50m ceiling height and managed with it, now we have 2.70m and it is just no comparison, the 20cm difference feels completely different, we like it much better this way.
