Now I am starting a short new discussion, but I do not want to let it drag on endlessly: Architect choice. This is weighing heavily on my mind.
I know the goal should be that the architect meets minimum criteria: We like the style, good references, a good feeling during the conversation, also does construction management, and much more.
I have to include a special criterion: My wife is US-American with no German language level that allows her to freely discuss things with the architect.
Back then, my wife and I spoke with >5 renowned architects. Result: Only 1 architect passed - especially on the topic of English.
BUT: Despite numerous references and good reviews, it is a pure planning office and does not bill according to HOAI (but rather at fixed prices). When asked about construction management, I was told that they stay "on board" for a project and that we as clients can choose from several construction managers based on their recommendation if desired.
Prices can be compared with HOAI beforehand - that hurts less for me.
Of course, I would now like to have the all-rounder including construction management on board, but the architect (planner) simply made a very good impression on us (including staff).
What do you think? Stick with the good feeling, or fully reopen the tedious architect topic?
