What did you indulge in at the house, what did you give up?

Finally generosity, after 15 years ERH that’s exactly what we treated ourselves to. Windows, open space, gallery, terrace. And NOT having a basement, but everything within reach. Although we didn’t build proportionally large, but the open style makes it.

I am sure that there will still be things we need to cut or choose cheaper, but I think that is a matter of opinion. We are fulfilling our wishes within the given budget. Everything else is not a loss. Make the best of it. We also do not have a basement (wanted). However, I consider the garage almost indispensable for us. Garden tools, bicycles, tools, and so on... Not to mention the advantages you mentioned.

: ERH? Did you live in the ERH mound?

: Yes, you can fit a lot in such a garage. It's just a prefab garage for us, but at least it's solid.

Regarding the shower: We have walk-in showers without a door, with a wall. That means you need about 1 sqm splash area in front of the door opening, and then ideally a side exterior wall and no window. The interior space should be 1 m wide, plus an 11 cm wall. This was not easy to incorporate into the bathroom layouts and the uniformity of the exterior facade regarding windows. I also see this as a "cost". In many other layouts, I see smaller guest bathrooms that only fit a <= 1 sqm shower.

Keyword house battery – if we had had enough money left, we would have installed an ice storage system on the property. Unfortunately, the excavation work would have been very expensive due to the heavy soil. Instead, we planned the technical room a bit larger and want to put one or two batteries in later. : Have you planned space for future house battery solutions? Or do you have a basement? May I ask how large you planned the children's room? Everyone seems to understand “large children's room” differently.

: A carport is actually much nicer than a garage. But you just can’t fit as much in there. You can really do a lot on the interior walls of the garage. If you know a carpenter, choosing the carport of course pays off twice. I will plant climbing plants on the garage, that should make it prettier.

: Ah, end terrace house. We also once considered a terraced house, but the difference to a condominium is hardly there, maybe a small garden, but otherwise... right?

Of course you may ask - she gets about 19sqm with windows on 2 sides. Space for a home battery is planned in the technical room (12sqm, washing takes place elsewhere). By the way, we now also think that buying our end-terrace house was not entirely worth it. Ok, we had one more room, which we now also need, but the walls to the neighbors are not really soundproof, so it feels like living in an apartment.
